38th ECBC Plenary in Stavanger

An impressive event in an impressive location – Stavanger brought both together. The 38th ECBC Plenary once again provided the ideal platform for professional exchange within the European covered bond community. For FINNOFLEET, it was a particular pleasure to participate in this important event once again and to discuss current developments, challenges and future perspectives with market participants from across Europe.

From 5 to 7 May 2026, the 38th ECBC Plenary Meeting of the European Covered Bond Council (ECBC) took place in Stavanger, Norway. The annual meeting is one of the most important gatherings in the European covered bond market. Issuers, investors, banks, rating agencies and numerous other market participants come together to assess current market developments and actively help shape the future of the industry.

Particularly in the current market environment, personal exchange is of great value. Regulatory developments, market trends, sustainability requirements and the impact of macroeconomic changes were once again on the agenda this year and gave rise to numerous engaging discussions.

We were especially fascinated by the topic of Artificial Intelligence (AI), which ran like a common thread through many conversations and expert presentations. The opportunities offered by AI in data analytics, risk management, process automation and property finance are attracting increasing attention across the industry. At the same time, AI is also a key strategic topic for FINNOFLEET. Discussions with experts from different market segments clearly demonstrated the potential these technologies offer for the further development of the financial industry. Many of the approaches and ideas discussed will be explored further in the coming months.

Another key focus of this year’s plenary meeting was sustainability and ESG, which continue to gain importance throughout the covered bond industry. Discussions centred on financing sustainable properties, energy-efficient buildings and the decarbonisation of Europe’s real estate stock. In addition, the relationship between Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) ratings and credit risks, as well as the role of ESG bonds and sustainable financing instruments, was discussed extensively.

For FINNOFLEET TXS, as a specialist in sustainability and ESG solutions for the real estate and mortgage finance sector, these discussions were of particular interest. The increasing integration of sustainability metrics, risk management and regulatory requirements confirms the high relevance of the issues we are already addressing together with our clients today. It was therefore especially valuable for us to discuss current developments, challenges and best practices with market participants from across Europe and to gain new inspiration for the further development of our solutions.

Alongside the professional discussions, the event once again provided numerous opportunities for direct dialogue. FINNOFLEET TXS and FINNOFLEET Switzerland presented themselves jointly at a stand within the 7th EEMI Sustainability and Digitalisation Pavilion, which took place in parallel with the plenary meeting. Discussions with clients, partners and market participants were intensive, constructive and characterised by strong interest in the current challenges and opportunities facing the industry. The excellent social programme organised by the ECBC also created the ideal setting for strengthening existing relationships, building new connections and continuing professional exchanges beyond the conference itself.

For FINNOFLEET, the ECBC Plenary is far more than an industry gathering. It is a place of dialogue, inspiration and collaboration within a strong European community. Our long-standing relationship with the ECBC and our regular exchange with market participants from across Europe are of great importance to us. The discussions in Stavanger once again demonstrated how valuable this network is for the continued development of the covered bond market. We look forward to incorporating the insights gained into our work and to remaining an active part of this community in the future.
